Unathi Nkayi

At 27, Unathi Nkayi is a singer-presenter-mother and is considered to an all-round modern African woman. Currently she’s the co-host of Metro FM`s afternoon drive show with Glen Lewis, a talented artist, and a sought after MC and performer. This down-to-earth celebrity has become a household name and was hailed by The Media magazine as one of South Africa`s most influential women in the media last year.
She started as a presenter on the popular SABC1 television show Castle Loud, and then presented her own show on the radio station YFM. Soon after, she released her first album My First Time and has been co-hosting the popular YFM slot Kamikaze Heat with Rudeboy Paul.
Born in Grahamstown, Unathi lived in Namibia and Cardiff (Wales) before returning home to Grahamstown. She matriculated at Victoria Girls High, enrolled at Rhodes University to study journalism and drama, and moved to Johannesburg in 2001. During her final year she was selected to attend a Dutch university as part of a four-month journalism exchange programme.
Other than for charity events, Unathi enjoys relaxing at home with her son, Sinako. She believes in maintaining a strict schedule and disciplined life.
Unathi’s most memorable moment in her career was when she performed at a United Nations Dinner and Quincy Jones gave her a standing ovation.
